The Big Room


Designed and built by master craftsman and artist in residence, John Engelhardt, the Big Room is the Center's community meeting and activity space. If you are interested in renting the Big Room should contact the office (812-333-0922) during business hours for more information or to make a reservation.

 

The groups below currently host programs in the Big Room. The views expressed here do not necessarily represent those of The Center or its practitioners. 

White Crane Tai Chi

An introduction to Tai Chi (Taiji) incorporating elements of Southern Chinese White Crane Kung Fu (Gong Fu). The practice emphasizes deep relaxation, breathing, and mind-body connection. The course will include warm up and loosening exercises, standing meditation, and an introduction to the Tai Chi form, sufficient to establish a foundation for home practice, or continue toward intermediate level. Suitable for all ages, benefits include enhanced and improved balance, body awareness, relaxation, breathing mechanics and postural integrity. Instructor Graham Montague has been practicing martial arts since the mid-1970's and began studying White Crane Kung Fu with Dennis Ngo in 1978. He is certified to teach Taiji and White Crane Boxing by the White Crane Research Institute (WCRI).

The Mankind Project

We are a committed group of men helping men in Bloomington through the greater work of The ManKind Project USA. We hold a weekly group meeting each Thursday evening, open to any man, as a safe place to share your challenges, struggles, and victories. "All of you" is welcome here. We support our community and strengthen our commitment to co-creating a better world through service work. Ongoing service projects and volunteer opportunities abound. We aim provide training to gift each man the tools to step into healthy, mature masculinity and increased self-awareness. Our work teaches each man the value of integrity, accountability, authenticity, emotional intelligence, and compassion.
